What Takes Place in Your Child’s Nursery School Class?

Education imparts a comprehensive perspective on the individual. The person learns the fundamental principles that help him lead a life that is complete. Individuals learn how to voice their opinions and how they can shape a better world with awareness. As the saying goes, “Knowledge is power”. Singapore has instilled it within its society that attainment of education is mandatory for all its citizens. Those who cannot afford it are funded by charities and the government. The quality of education is known worldwide. It has awed people internationally but the credit is undoubtedly for the highly trained teaching programs that are run all over the nation and the way students are taught how to think analytically.

Preschool starts at a tender age of 3 years and ends at 6 or 7. After this, the child is enrolled for primary education. There has been a lot of misconceptions regarding early education but with awareness the parents have realized that the importance of preschool and nursey cannot be undermined. The periodic kindergarten fees range from S$150 to $1000 a month for Singaporean children (public and private centres). Government subsidies are available and other charities and communities look out for the ones who cannot afford such fees. The nation has many top teaching preschools that train their teacher’s at least one year prior to handing over an actual class. During the training program if they seem unfit, they are let off immediately.

In a normal every day class in nursery many important age appropriate topics are introduced that cater for the social, academic, physical and mental growth of the child. Following is an outline of what a child learns in a typical nursery school class every day. More information of a comprehensive curriculum can be found at My Little Campus’ nursery school classes.

Language and communication

At 3 years the child is introduced to phonics and their associated letters. Saying names of things and them sounding with these sounds are taught that help develop basic language skills as well as communication. English is the language of instruction with other mother languages at this stage.

Brain developing techniques

Special activities are introduced that target brain development such as sorting, numbering, classification and recalling information.

Development of social skills as well as self-help abilities

Interaction with peers helps develop the child those skills that are required for interaction all through his life. The child understands the concept of a regular routine and gradually progresses towards independence.

Development of Sensory and Psychomotor skills

Activities that target the development of building fine motor skills in the child are introduced where the child is encouraged to work with such materials that help develop those tiny muscles in the hand that can help in writing. Along with these emphases is also put to the development of hand eye coordination in children as well.

Extra-curricular activities

The children are introduced to various instruments, sounds and art techniques that help build imaginative and creative traits within them. Music and art have been proven to aid in improving academic performances in children as they generate a sense of focus and perseverance. Planned outdoor activities are also taught where emphasis is laid to their hand eye coordination like throwing a ball across a particular distance in a targeted space.
